 To assist at free medical camp held on the last Sunday of every month

Join groups that visit the sick

Give blood at the blood camp to be held on Good Friday

Sunday lunch for 120 to 150  destitute people. Cost Rs 1,000

Medical expenses for the needy – any amount can be contributed

Funeral expenses: Rs 500 per person

Monthly pension for an elderly person: Rs 150 to 200

St Louis School for the Deaf and Blind

 

Needed:

  1. Used practical notebooks or old magazines for punching Braille script for blind students.
  2. Geometry boxes, notebooks etc for the deaf students
  3. Musical instruments, violin, harmonium, guitars, tabla, keyboard etc
  4. Computers,
  5. Special aids and appliances, equipment
  6. Old chairs, desk, books
  7. Clothes, shoes that are in good condition
  8. Sports material – volley ball, football, nets, basketball
  9. Indoor games material.

Volunteers

  1. To read textbooks from 6th to 12th std, from 5.30 pm tp 7.30 pm or 6 am to 7 am on weekdays, on holidays from  9.15 am to 12.15 am.Both tamil and English medium required
  2. To record lessons into audio cassettes (can be done at home)
  3. Help teach spoken English classes – one a week
  4. Train in job-related fields such as physiotherapy, IT, copy editing, Carnatic music, graphic design, web design, fashion design etc

  1. Celebrate birthdays etc by sponsoring a meal for 300 hostel boys
  2. Sponsor hostel boys food and accommodation at Rs 800 a month for one child (for 10 months Rs 8000)
  3. Sponsor school uniforms – per child Rs 500 for one set

Sanctuary (Emotional support group for children with cancer, and their parents)

 

Needed:

Clean clothes, bedsheets etc

Hygienically packaged food, such as biscuits etc

Give gifts to the children at Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Easter etc

 

Volunteer:

Organize a workshop for children living with cancer. These workshops cover topics including acting, painting, music, miming and more

Entertain kids for an hour in the morning by singing, or a shows etc at the institute

Screen a movie viewing at the institute

Join an outreach program on anti-smoking for youngsters, or on women’s health issues

Volunteers to counsel children can be trained. Need to start by working for an hour or so a day at the counter, doing paperwork for the first year. After one year can graduate to counseling children fulltime, following training sessions.

  1. A workshop for children living with cancer
    Sponsor a 1-day workshop for children living with cancer. These workshops cover topics including acting, painting, music, miming and more. Bring some fun to these 30 children! (Rs 1000)
  2. Lunch for children living with cancer
    Sponsor a specially prepared lunch for 30 children who are undergoing cancer treatment at the Cancer Institute and their parents ( Rs.2000)
  3. 1 cycle of chemotherapy for a person living with cancer
    Sponsor one of the twelve cycles a person living with cancer generally undergoes over a six-month period
  4. Movie screening for people living with cancer
    Gift a movie screening for patients at the Cancer institute in Chennai to lift their spirits and bring some fun into their lives. ( Rs.2000)
